About Toucan
Toucan is a new, immersive way to learn a new language while browsing the internet. No classes, tests or cram sessions. Instead, each time a user visits a website, Toucan automatically translates certain words and phrases on the page into the language they're trying to learn. That way, they can learn words in their new language within the context of a language they're already comfortable with. This approach is scientifically proven to work just as well as traditional language learning exercises like flash cards. In fact, it’s often more effective!
Job Description
We’re looking for a Software Architect, Front End to help take Team Toucan to the next level by guiding our frontend technology. This person will be responsible for developing solutions to frontend platform challenges, advising teams on technical implementations, and proactively identifying and resolving technical debt.

- Be hands-on: While you’ll be advising on projects, you’ll also be working on solutions to frontend platform features
- Own frontend developer experience: You’ll craft a developer experience that is simple and conducive to flow for the whole team
- Lead with intention: World-class talent demands world-class leadership. You’ll act as a subject matter expert and mentor to the engineering team, continually identifying the highest areas of leverage by leading with questions and communicating with the whole team
- Build a strong testing culture: You’re passionate about quality and you invest time in making it easy to write tests and teaching the team how to write tests
- Mentor co-workers: You'll lend your experience, advice, training, and time to mentor your teammates through data engineering, machine learning, and data analytics
- Foster code quality: You’re thinking long term and take the steps today to foster code quality today to make working in Toucans code better over the long term
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in frontend software development
- 2+ years of experience in web extension development
- You possess immense empathy for people and think deeply about how you can improve their experience with Toucan
- Excellent communication skills that allow you to work effectively with the engineering team and cross-functional stakeholders to move projects forward
- You embody an ownership attitude towards your work that enables you to create systems that better our entire organization
