About Lu'uLive
Lu'uLive provides ocean conditions for divers on Oahu. Divers currently don't have a means to anticipate conditions under the surface, and Lu'uLive provides that data through a variety of marine technology. The goal is to help divers find incredible conditions under the water and avoid murky, unsafe swimming. We also present data about marine life, to help you learn about the life you might see before you see it. Know before you go.
Position Overview
Lu'uLive is seeking a motivated and skilled Full Stack Engineer to help us transition our beta application into a fully-featured, visually rich web app. We have an existing UX design and a beta version, but we're ready to revamp the platform to serve our growing community of divers, freedivers, and ocean-goers.
You will be responsible for building out both the front-end and back-end, integrating critical data feeds, and building analytics to help us grow. You will join a small, dedicated team. Our goal is to launch this new website by the end of the year, and we estimate this will require approximately 160 hours of development work. Commitment: minimum 10 hours/week.
Key Responsibilities
- Front-End Development: Translate existing UX designs (from Figma, Sketch, etc.) into a responsive, polished, and fast-loading web application with a heavy emphasis on visual content.
- Back-End Development: Build and maintain the server-side logic, database, and APIs required to support new features.
- API Integration: Integrate third-party APIs to post critical marine warnings, including brown water advisories, high surf warnings, and jellyfish influx data.
- Real-Time Data: Develop functionality to process and display real-time data from our network of marine sensors and cameras.
- Analytics: Implement back-end analytics to track user behavior, feature adoption, and other key metrics to assist with product decisions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with our two part-time developers in a collaborative environment, participating in code reviews and agile planning to meet our launch goal by the end of 2025.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 1 year of experience as a Full Stack Engineer with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related field.
- Proven track record with a strong portfolio of web applications.
- Proficiency in modern front-end technologies (e.g., React, Vue, or similar JavaScript framework, HTML5, CSS3).
- Strong experience in back-end development (e.g., Node.js, Python with Django/Flask, or similar).
- Experience designing, building, and integrating RESTful APIs.
- Solid understanding of database design and management (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
- Experience implementing pixel-perfect UIs from existing design files.
- Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate with a small, distributed team.
- Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and meet a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.
- Able to meet in-person on Oahu once per week to review goals and objectives.
Bonus Points (Preferred)
- A personal passion for the ocean! We’d love to work with someone who is a scuba diver, freediver, surfer, or marine scientist.
- Previous experience working in an early-stage startup environment.
