Carbon Lighthouse is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build out our software platform and accelerate environmental impact. Along the way, you’ll learn all about energy efficiency, commercial real estate markets, and the science of the built environment.

We have taken the first step of transforming our data analysis and thermodynamics modeling toolset into a robust software platform. Now it’s time to innovate our platform and scale it to fulfill our mission of global impact. Your role will concentrate on streamlining the flow of data from wireless sensors through our SMART platform, driving the automation of our analytics, and building new features to help stop climate change.

While this role involves significant software development work, you will also spend time interacting with Carbon Lighthouse building experts, engineers, product managers, and sales engineers to connect our software to our real-world mission.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

Collaboratively work on projects with multiple stakeholders on the software team and company-wide that have meaningful impact for our clients and reduce carbon emissions in the built environment.
Deliver software in an Agile environment that is: impactful to our clients, creative, elegant, innovative, and sets us up for future maintainability and ease of change.
Participate in the full product development cycle from concept to deprecation with emphasis on designing, implementing, and supporting platform level systems.
Effectively plan and break down high-level requirements by identifying missing information and proactively seeking input across teams.
Conduct code and design reviews, provide architectural best practices, and create the kinds of tooling that make everyone more effective.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through effective code review, pair programming, and many other mentorship opportunities.
Help grow the engineering team by recruiting and assisting with interviewing.
Stay on the leading edge of development practices, be familiar with emerging technologies, and have a passion for learning.

Required Qualifications:

Dedication to Carbon Lighthouse's environmental mission.
BS in Computer Science or similar technical field, or exceptional software career experience.
5+ years of software engineering experience.
Experience building production web applications using Python, or other comparable technology.
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams and management to collect requirements, identify tasks, provide estimates and meet production deadlines.
Experience building complex applications that have been successfully delivered to customers.
Experience owning a project from scoping requirements through the successful launch of the project.

Bonus Qualifications:

Experience building applications that revolve around the preparation and presentation of time series data.
Experience in Series A or Series B startups.
UX/UI design experience.
HVAC systems, controls, software/hardware background.
Experience with any of the following technologies:
- Server side web frameworks (e.g. Django, Flask, etc.)
- Building user interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and front end frameworks (e.g. React, etc.)
- Developing applications backed by RDBMS or similar data stores (e.g. PostgreSQL, DynamoDb, etc.)
- Building systems on the AWS or GCP public cloud
- Data science and machine learning libraries (pandas, numpy, tensorflow, etc)
