Job Title: Front-End Developer (React - Next.js)

Location: Remote (EST or CST time zone preferred)

Work Schedule/Shift: Mon-Fri Standard business hours aligned to EST or CST | Minimum 40 work hours per week.

Duration/Length of Assignment: 14 Month Contract through December 31, 2026

*Must be able to convert to a full-time employee without sponsorship, restrictions, or an additional employer*

W2 Employment Only – No Corp to Corp / C2C arrangements.

Position Overview:

This role supports a leading energy and utilities provider’s digital initiatives focused on enhancing user experience and operational efficiency through modern web applications. The position sits within a collaborative development group responsible for building and maintaining customer-facing platforms that drive business transformation and improve accessibility for users. The team operates in an agile environment, partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders across design, backend, and product management to deliver scalable and responsive digital solutions. The team structure encourages collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning to ensure quality and innovation across all deliverables. The Front-End Developer will contribute to the design, development, and optimization of interactive web applications that deliver consistent performance across devices and browsers. This individual will play a key role in ensuring the usability, accessibility, and maintainability of front-end components while participating in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives. The role emphasizes attention to detail, performance tuning, and a commitment to coding best practices while working within a team that values reliability, scalability, and seamless user experience.

Required Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in front-end development with strong JavaScript fundamentals
Proficiency in React.js, Next.js, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
Experience implementing server-side rendering (SSR) concepts using Next.js
Strong understanding of responsive design principles and experience using CSS frameworks (Tailwind CSS preferred)
Experience managing code with Git, including branching, pull requests, and peer reviews
Knowledge of web performance optimization techniques such as bundle optimization, lazy loading, and code splitting
Familiarity with browser developer tools for debugging and performance testing
Ability to ensure cross-browser and cross-device consistency in appearance and functionality
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with close attention to detail
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within an agile, cross-functional team

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

Experience developing with TypeScript for type-safe JavaScript applications
Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, or Cypress
Experience using modern CSS-in-JS solutions or preprocessors like Sass or Less
Knowledge of headless CMS integration and JAMstack architecture concepts
Understanding of SEO best practices and implementation strategies
Awareness of web accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA) and assistive technologies
Experience developing Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) or mobile-first solutions
Familiarity with backend technologies or full-stack development principles
Portfolio or code samples demonstrating focus on code quality, performance, and user experience

Day to Day/Responsibilities:

Develop responsive, high-performance web applications using React.js, Next.js, and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
Build modular and reusable UI components that align with established design systems and component libraries
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following established coding standards and best practices
Implement server-side rendering (SSR) and static site generation (SSG) techniques to improve application performance and SEO
Ensure cross-browser compatibility and consistent user interface behavior across multiple devices and screen sizes
Utilize Tailwind CSS or similar frameworks to maintain responsive and scalable UI layouts
Optimize application performance through techniques like code splitting, bundle optimization, and lazy loading
Write and maintain automated test coverage, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, to ensure code reliability
Manage code through Git workflows, contributing to branching, pull requests, and code reviews
Collaborate with backend and design teams to ensure seamless integration of APIs and consistent user experience
Troubleshoot and resolve front-end issues, performance bottlenecks, and UI defects as they arise
Participate in all agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and team reviews
Ensure web applications comply with accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA) to provide equitable usability for all users
Stay current with evolving front-end technologies, frameworks, and development best practices to support continuous improvement
Mentor junior developers by providing feedback and sharing expertise in code quality and performance optimization
