About The Role:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Backend Developer to play a pivotal role in building our innovative platform from the ground up. As a key member of our development team, you will be instrumental in shaping the backend structure of our video-sharing platform. This role requires expertise in cloud services, particularly Heroku and AWS, and a strong understanding of backend development principles. Your contributions will be critical as we embark on the creation of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that focuses on video-sharing, video recommendation, and user dashboards.

This is a short-term contract position with the possibility of an extension. It is remote, but Atlanta-based applicants are preferred.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate closely with company leaders, front-end developers, and other cross-functional teams to define and implement backend architecture for our video-sharing platform.
Lead the design and development of databases and schema standards tailored to our platform's unique needs, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and data integrity.
Utilize cloud services such as Heroku to deploy, manage, and scale backend infrastructure components.
Develop APIs and endpoints that enable seamless communication between the front-end and back-end systems as well as external APIs, including but not limited to OpenAI API and HuggingFaceHub API.
Implement robust security measures and authentication mechanisms to safeguard user data and platform integrity.
Optimize backend performance to ensure fast loading times and smooth user experiences.
Conduct regular testing, debugging, and performance tuning to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Collaborate in code reviews and maintain high coding standards while promoting best practices.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and cloud service advancements, particularly in the AWS ecosystem.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

Skills You'll Need to Bring:

Proven experience as a Backend Developer with a focus on cloud services, particularly AWS.
Strong proficiency in server-side programming languages such as Django and Node.js.
Hands-on experience designing and optimizing databases, including knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
Familiarity with cloud-based architectures, microservices, and containerization (e.g., Docker).
Strong understanding of microservices architecture and best practices.
Experience in system design.
Experience building RESTful APIs and working with API frameworks.
Understanding of authentication and authorization mechanisms, as well as security best practices.
Knowledge of caching mechanisms, data replication, and data synchronization.
Familiarity with technologies like Kubernetes, Elastic Beanstalk, AWS Virtual Machines, and AWS Lambda.
Fluency in English and strong communication skills.
Ability to work in an Agile/Scrum environment and manage priorities effectively.

Familiarity with React
Familiarity with DevOps to improve deployment speed and reliability.
Previous experience in video-related platforms or media streaming is a plus.
