Role Description

As a Technical Development Intern at Impulse, you will be instrumental in shaping and fine-tuning our MVP as well as adding novel features based on beta testing feedback. This role involves a blend of design, front-end/back-end/full-stack, and data analytics work. Due to the nature of startups, you may be assigned to do multiple projects at once. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of app development and contribute to the growth of the company.

This is not a “busywork” position, the contributions you make will be instrumental in shaping our MVP and our company as a whole. There are a lot of opportunities and we are willing to explore opportunities tailored to your interests and experiences!

Responsibilities:

Design Reviews: Help Impulse plan out our next generation of features and contribute to design documentation
Develop and Maintain iOS App: Assist in the development and maintenance of our iOS application using React Native.
Collaborate with Team Members: Work closely with our development team to implement new features and enhance existing ones.
Backend Integration: Help in integrating the app with cloud-based backend services.
Bug Fixing and Testing: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs to ensure a smooth user experience.
Code Review: Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and best practices.
Documentation: Assist in writing technical documentation for various parts of the application.
User Feedback: Gather and incorporate user feedback to improve app functionality and performance.
Stay Updated: Keep up with the latest industry trends and technologies related to mobile app development and cloud services.

Qualifications:

Education: Currently pursuing or graduated with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in app development in React Native and basic understanding of mobile app lifecycle.
Proficiency in a general purpose programming language like Python, C, or Java
Knowledge of cloud services (e.g., Google Cloud, Azure, AWS).
Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.

Soft Skills:

Deep interest in digital health, wellness, and technology.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work independently and take initiative in a remote setting.
Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced startup environment.

Preferred Experience:

Previous experience with mobile app development (projects, coursework, or internships).
Understanding of RESTful APIs and asynchronous programming.
Basic knowledge of UI/UX design principles.

Compensation:

The base compensation will be $20.00 / hour but will be discussed more if you make it further in the application process. This is subject to change.

Take-Home Assessment – An hopefully enjoyable take-home assignment will get emailed to you with a 1 week deadline from the email date (We will really be looking at these!)
Technical Round – A short and simple technical round (think LeetCode-esque)
Behavioral Round – A chat with the team to gauge work style and culture fit (This should not be stressful at all!)
