We are looking for a full-stack developer to help our AI research team improve and maintain a chatbot for use in a research study. The role will be utilizing a mostly Python stack, with lighter use of PHP and JavaScript. The chatbot promotes well-being and the study findings will be published. The role offers the opportunity to expand into related research utilizing different interfaces (e.g. web portal instead of chatbot).

Job Responsibilities:

Design, build, and maintain software components, following our software engineering processes to design, develop, document, review, test, inspect, and release code.
Improve the existing Python backend, including adding new features, structural refactoring, and unit testing.
Create tooling and reporting, such as an interface for non-technical writers to update chatbot content and scripts for compiling daily bug and metrics reports.
Execute and complete tasks with minimal supervision applying your judgment and problem-solving skills.
Work as part of a project team to coordinate software development and determine project scope and limitations.

Required Skills:

Fluency with and deep knowledge of Python.
Experience with React frontend development.
Experience deploying a scalable service.
Ability to work both with and without design and style specifications to build smooth user experiences (this is a research project and we have limited designer resources).
Ability to work independently and manage your own time to deliver long-term, lightly scoped projects.
Ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issues.

Nice to Have/ Bonus Skills:

Experience building chat or interactive game backends.
Experience with deploying web apps

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, with 3+ years experience, or equivalent experience as a software engineer.
