Use All Five is looking for a passionate, detail-oriented and motivated Lead Engineer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be in charge of leading development projects from start to finish, prototyping — often utilizing ML or other emerging technologies and APIs, — as well as implementing animation details across various projects.

They’ll work alongside a team of talented developers, designers, and producers to bring high quality web applications, prototypes, and websites to production. We are looking for a creative and dedicated individual who will fit with our collaborative culture. The successful candidate will be on a team where they’ll have the opportunity to work on projects that are seen by millions of people. Some clients include Google, Guggenheim, UCLA, and Spotify.

Responsibilities

In this role, you'll be collaborating with clients, producers, developers, and designers to create new features and maintain responsive web front-ends running Next.js or similar frameworks. Also, debug development and production issues in stateful applications driven by dynamic data from a headless CMS. Will also work towards a high standard of code quality, interactive animations, internal tools/processes, and documentation.

Engineer and maintain frontend code for multiple websites

Build client-side architecture for new features and applications with Typescript
Expertly work across a variety of web technologies (some legacy, some modern, some custom)
Utilize state management via Zustand or Jotai
Build prototypes and non-traditional web experiences, often working directly with clients
Make complex animation sequences
Create responsive grids with CSS grid and flexbox that work across every device
Proficiently use Git to rebase features into the codebase
Build websites with performance and accessibility in mind
Uses a tool like Storybook to build sites in a modular way
Create web pages out of multiple components (slices)
Work with APIs to pull in and output data (e.g., CMSs such as Prismic)
Create custom own APIs when necessary (e.g., Prismic Integration fields)
Manipulate data in advanced ways (e..g. Prismic importing of WordPress blogs)
Deliver tested bug-free websites
Own and organize projects
Utilize design patterns (Functional Components, Object-Oriented Programming)

Interacts and communicates with a team of developers, designers and producers

Proactively communicate, foreseeing issues before they become too big and work with the team to unblock these issues
Share knowledge in order to make projects better
Ask clarifying questions
Alert production when in need of assistance in order to meet deadlines
Understand best UX/UI practices and work with the design team to implement the best possible solutions
Reviews Figma files and leave notes/questions for designers
Assist other developers when they're in need

Stay organized and punctual

Handle leading multiple projects simultaneously
Complete projects and tasks done on schedule
Accurately estimates timings
Create tickets, milestones, and projects in Github
Utilize alternative tools like Miro boards when necessary
Schedule and participate in check-ins with project teams
Delegate tasks effectively to others when appropriate

Professionally communicate with clients

Respond with reasonable promptness to client communications
Lead technical meetings with clients

Write clear code and documentation

Write readable code and helpful comments
Write READMEs that can be understood and utilized by other developers
Write guides for clients that teach them how to use a feature or something like a CMS
Teach developers about new codebases
Look for ways to refactor code even if not their own
Write code in a modular way so it can easily be used on multiple projects to reduce development time

Participate in code reviews

Leave actionable and constructive feedback
Ensure that teammates successfully adjust to your feedback
Teach teammates via pair programming and other techniques

Contribute to Use All Five codebases

Create libraries, plugins and components that the team and the developer community can use
Update and improve bases such as our internal Next.js Prismic base

Learn new and existing technologies

Stay up to date with the latest technologies and best practices
Share knowledge with the team in the form of links or group presentations
Understand how to apply new knowledge to their work
Choose the right tech stacks in order to set their projects up for success

Qualifications

5+ years of professional experience building web apps and UIs with dynamic content and modular components
3+ years experience with Typescript and React
3+ years experience in JavaScript and modern web standards like ES6, HTML5 and CSS3
2+ years experience building with Next.js and headless CMSs (such as Prismic, Wagtail, Contentful, Wordpress)
Initiative to work well on teams and also independently
A desire to learn, grow, and shape the technology branch of the company
